The 3 Most Important Questions to Ask Your Wedding Photographer

We will be capturing all the special moments throughout your wedding day, the photos that you’ll be looking back on for years to come.

To give you some added peace of mind and to make sure that everything runs as smoothly as possible when it comes to your wedding photos, here are the most important questions to ask your photographer before your big day.

Will you be bringing an assistant or second photographer with you?

There are so many special moments that happen during your wedding day that a second photographer is always a great idea if one is available. If your photographer will be bringing someone along, find out how long they have been working together and ask to see a few of the second photographer’s shots to make sure that you are happy with their style and abilities as well.

I have 4 main second shooters that work with me. This will be Lindsays 9th year with me, Jess’ 8th year, Benjis 7th year, and Cyd’s been with me for as long as I can remember at this point. <3 They’ve all been ninja trained with me and we all work together seamlessly.

What happens if you can’t make it to the wedding?

This is not something that a lot of brides remember to ask their photographer. If your photographer gets ill or there’s a family emergency, what plan do they have in place to ensure that you still get photos on your wedding day?

I’m very lucky to have such a great line up of second photographers as well as being in the industry so long I have a huge list of professional photographers that jump right in case of emergencies! Knock on wood as I go into my 13th year of taking photos I’ve not had to call on any of them, but I have actually subbed in for other photographers 3 times. Always thankful for such an amazing wedding creatives group we have that put community over competition.

Do you have any backup equipment?

This is extremely important because as much as you would like to rely on technology, things can go wrong. Make sure that your photographer not only has a backup camera but multiple lenses and flashes too.

We have 3-4 cameras with us at every wedding, along with 2-3 backup lenses and flashes for them. Lindsay likes to make fun of me for preparing for the wedding zombie apocalypse…. Haha I’ve seen a lot over the years and know the way to not stressing out on the big day is to have prepared mentally and equipment wise before hand.

Never be reluctant to ask us or your photographer any questions that you think are important. This is a day you have put a lot of time and effort into so it’s only natural to want to feel at-ease as your wedding day gets closer. We LOVE to help and doing this for so long we’ve seen a lot and know how to help! <3
